It’s been a while since I was last here and truly, I have missed the writing. It has been a roller coaster ride these past 6 months with lots going on in my personal life, school, work, family, the list is endless. During this time, I have learnt several lessons that I am daily choosing to implement in my life. In this blog I will be sharing a few of the things that have stood out for me and resulted in my change of perspective through my different encounters.

Biting what I can chew

I was so excited for the break from school and had so many different types of plans laid out for my holiday. A month and a half later with no clear strategy set up, nothing substantial was achieved on my long list. I immediately started beating myself up over it and this was pointless as it led nowhere. I am learning the importance of knowing what I am capable of doing so that I do not get overwhelmed and this involves being aware of which priorities take precedence over others.

Being Intentional

In our lives there are different life goals and plans that we have and if you are like me and have a particular timeline for when you expect things to happen, newsflash – life doesn’t always run on schedule. When we get major setbacks, we are faced with two choices, to go forward or remain where we are at. Moving forward comes with intentionality in the choices that need to be made and also being patient with oneself. I choose to be thankful with every new day that is before me for it is another opportunity to take a step or two in the right direction.

Sacrificing comfort

This to me is a daily struggle and I admit requires a lot of will power and discipline. Comfort is something that comes naturally to me in the form of complacency, it could be in my mind, with my friendships, with my skills, reading, etc. Choosing not to challenge myself in different areas results in stagnancy and then I feel horrible about myself and this takes me back to square one. I sat down and decided to sacrifice the small comforts and set up a reward system for myself. If I plan to do a, b, and c on a particular day and I achieve it, I am able to reward myself with say 30 minutes of YouTube videos or Facebook. The temporary discomfort for long term benefits pays off in the long run though it doesn’t always feel like it.

I am Enough

Many times in life we are our biggest critics and the harshest judges. For most of the part we are comparing houses, cars, clothes, makeup, body size and the list goes on and on. This has been made worse with the craze of social media with people portraying the “perfect” life for all to see. Personally, when I start to feel like X, Y, or Z has it easier than me or is better off than me, I remind myself that what I see is only a part of their story and not the whole of it. This has resulted in more meaningful connections with myself, my friends and coworkers and to remind ourselves that we are enough. So, when those moments come, choose to relax and remind yourself that you are enough.

Let’s keep this conversation going as you share with me the ways your perspective has changed through your different experiences and what lessons you have picked from those encounters. Stay blessed.
